Psalm 56: 1-4; "Be merciful to me, O God, for man would swallow me up; Fighting all day he oppresses me. (2) My enemies would hound me all day, for their are many who fight against me; O, Most High. (3) Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. (4) In God (I will praise His word), In God, I have put my trust; I will not fear, what can flesh do to me?" NKJV.
From the time that David was a young shepherd watching over his fathers sheep. When he had to fight against the bear and the lion that he knew God was with him. We too can be assured that God is with us in our daily battles with those around us who desire to bring trouble into our lives because we don't believe in the things of the world, but our trust in the Lord. And that assures us that we will be victorious against our enemies.
Psalm 56: 5-9; "All day they twist my words; All their thoughts are against me for evil." (6) They gather together, they hide, they mark my steps, when they lie in wait for my life. (7) Shall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, O God. (8) You number my wanderings; Put my tears into Your bottle. Are they not in Your Book? (9) When I cry out to You, then my enemies will turn back; This I know, because God is for me." NKJV.
No matter who our enemies are and how they peruse us, and how they plan against us we know that God is near us. King David knew that he was amongst his enemies when he fled to their land. Because they worshiped other gods, and their sin and evil ways were known to our God, but in David's actions he had fled to them from Saul his enemy within. Now that he was their he called on God to watch over and protect him from His enemies without.
We to can have the same assurances that David did, for it is written in Romans 8:31; "What then shall we say to those things? If God is for us, who can be against us?" For the enemies that we have, are the enemies of our God, for they have not believed on the one that can give them life eternal through the Blood of Jesus that was shed on the Cross of Calvary.
Psalm 56: 10-13; "In God, (I will praise His word). In the Lord (I will praise His word). (11) In God, I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? (12) Vows made to You are binding upon me, O God; I will render praises to you. (13) For You have delivered my soul from death. Have You not kept my feet from falling, that I may walk before God In the light of the living?" NKJV.
Since his childhood, King David had learned the words of God, and knew them to be faithful to all of His children. It was said of David that he was a man after Gods on heart, in both the Old and New Testaments. So we know by his life and the manner that he walked before the Lord the benediction of this Psalm is a wonderful assurance for our life today.
Just as King David said that he would trust Your word, and that he would not be afraid. We can apply the same principles to our lives. David also knew that You had saved him from death, had kept him from falling, and that in these things he knew that their will be a day when he stands before You in Your kingdom. We also have all these assurances because we know that Jesus went to the Cross to bring that assurance to this generation that we live in for it tells us that someday all the evil and wickedness will be defeated and we will dwell with You in Your Kingdom. For nothing will stand in the presence of our God and that day will come that is mentioned in Acts 1: 11; "Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven." NKJV.
So as we live today, let us not fear anything that is here on earth that is in the manner of the world, the flesh, or the devil, and we shall see the kingdom of God come at its time.
IN HIM, WE HAVE LIGHT, AND THE LIGHT HAS OVERCOME THE DARKNESS, AND THAT LIGHT IS THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. PRAISE HIS NAME FOREVER. AMEN.
